Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

North Carolina isn’t exactly the most exotic kiteboarding location in the USA or always warmest place for that matter, but it’s hard to beat this location in the summer months. For us kiteboarders that kiteboard on the East Coast, Cape Hatteras is a “short” drive or flight with consistent winds! The fact you have access to both shallow bayside and wide-open beaches with plenty of rolling waves makes Cape Hatteras one of the most ideal playgrounds for all levels of kiteboarder.

Peak Season: June – September
Average wind range during season: 17 – 30 knots
Dominant winds direction: NE, SE and SW

Cape Hatteras Kiteboarding - Top 5 USA Kiteboarding locations

Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

The Columbia Gorge has enough wind to keep all level of kiters happy, it is known to be rather gusty at the best of times though. 100s of kiteboarders from all around the world flock to Hood River every year for the strong winds that funnel through the gorge. Hood River is truly a classic place to kiteboard in the United States. On a sunny summer day, winds can reach up to 40knots, so remember to pack in your small kites.

Maui, Hawaii

Jupiter, Florida

The strip of coastal shoreline that is intertwined as both Juno Beach and Jupiter Beach in Florida has been a hangout for Kiteboarders, windsurfers and surfers for over 40 years. The location is superior for both beginning and advanced level kite boarding. Head down to the part of Juno Beach appropriately named Kite Beach and get ready to launch! The locals are also well known for being super friendly to visitors, which always makes for a fun session.

Jupiter Florida Kiteboarding - Top 5 USA Kiteboarding locations

South Padre Island, Texas

Texas was one of the first places for kiteboarding to take off in the USA. Winds are blown in from the Gulf of Mexico, whose waters stay warm year-round, and are very often consistent. In the same day, you can have small waves on the Gulf side of the island and perfect slicks on the bay side.
Superb wind, flat, shallow, warm Gulf waters, warm air and water temperatures as well as a lack of busy crowds and a wide variety of reasonable accommodation make this a kiter’s dream.
